April 3, 2018
Professor Tim Woo, Associate Professor of Engineering Education, Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, and Dr Jason Chan, Lecturer, Department of Chemistry were invited by Hong Kong Science Museum to deliver lectures at the HK SciFest 2018 on April 1, 2018. The two lectures were attended by over 150 members of the public.
At the "How Can We Apply the Engineering Knowledge to Make the Community Better?" lecture, Prof Woo introduced some interesting engineering designs for those in need and how these designs can make our lives better. He also discussed about how STEAM activities can enhance students' learning.
Following Prof Woo's session, Dr Chan introduced the basic chemistry of metal extraction and the natural abundance of metals, as well as the uses and importance of both the common and the rare metal elements at "The Common and the Rare Metals in Our Planet" lecture. A science experiment was also conducted on the spot to increase audience engagement.
In its fifth year, HK SciFest is organized by Hong Kong Science Museum with the aim of collaborating with scientific institutes and organisations to provide interesting scientific activities to elevate the public awareness and interest in science and technology.
